AMAT launches the Fourth Edition of Femfestival 2024-25.
in collaboration with the prestigious Middlesex University of London and under the Patronage of the Municipality of Florence.
The festival’s first event is the International Composition Competition, this year dedicated to string ensembles. The call for entries is now available on AMAT’s website at https://www.amatlab.com/femfestival-it/

The theme of the Fourth Edition of the Composition Competition focuses on the historical and emotional narrative of the relationship between foreign female artists and musicians and the city of Florence. Candidates are encouraged to draw inspiration from the writings of Vernon Lee (pseudonym of Violet Paget, 1856-1935) and the music of Ethel Smyth (1858-1944), both of whom were deeply connected to Florence through various personal and professional experiences.
Now in its fourth edition, the Femfestival is an international project by AMAT, celebrating multidisciplinarity and dialogue to promote and highlight the contributions of women in the cultural world. After the first two editions of the Competition, which were exclusively open to female composers, AMAT expanded its scope in 2023 to include male contributions as well, while remaining true to the Femfestival’s mission of fostering harmony between genders and providing a platform to elevate women’s work.
