AMAT launches the Fourth Edition of Femfestival 2024-25, in collaboration with the prestigious Middlesex University of London and under the Patronage of the Municipality of Florence.
The first event of the festival is the International Composition Competition, this time dedicated to the string ensemble. Starting today, the competition call is available on the AMAT website at the following link: https://www.amatlab.com/femfestival-it/. The application deadline is March 8, 2025.
The theme of the Fourth Edition of the Composition Competition is the historical and emotional narrative of the relationship between foreign female artists and musicians with Florence. In particular, candidates may draw inspiration from the writings of Vernon Lee (pseudonym of Violet Paget, 1856-1935) and the music of Ethel Smyth (1858-1944), both of whom had various personal and professional connections to the city of Florence.
Now in its fourth edition, Femfestival is an international project by AMAT that focuses on interdisciplinarity and dialogue, aimed at promoting and enhancing the female contribution in the cultural world. After the first two editions of the competition, which were exclusively for female composers, AMAT has broadened its scope, including male contributions starting from 2023, while still respecting the spirit of Femfestival as a search for harmony between genders and an opportunity to highlight the work of women.
Femfestival promotes collaboration from all sides to break down barriers, for a fairer and more collaborative society, through creative thinking and music.
