It’s Femfestival time and, while the March events are in preparation, we announce the extension of the deadline for submitting applications until 11.59pm (Italian time) on April 30, 2025.
This year’s competition is for scores for string ensemble (two violins, a viola and a cello). Compositions with fewer instruments within the stated ensemble are allowed, but solo pieces will not be accepted.
Each composition must not exceed a maximum duration of 7 minutes. There are no restrictions on the musical language or form of the composition.
The theme for the Fourth Edition of the 2024 Composition Competition is the historical and/or emotional narrative of the relationship between female artists and musicians and the city of Florence. Candidates can draw inspiration from the writings of Vernon Lee (pen name of Violet Paget, 1856-1935) and the music of Ethel Smyth (1858-1944), both of whom had significant personal and professional ties to Florence.
