Un anno da fiaba: between music, sustainability and new technologies. The second edition of Regeneration Opera starts today.

Here comes Regeneration Opera 2023, with the Lyric-Symphonic Review Un anno da fiaba, conceived and produced by Amat and carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the MPS Foundation, in co-production with the Theaters of Siena and in collaboration with the Foundation Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala.

Music, technologies, communication, social and environmental issues are the focus of this edition. An experimental path started last year, an idea of musical theater that draws on tradition and speaks of the present, seeking a dialectic with the audience and contemporary culture.

Starting today, about 800 students from schools in the province will be involved with projects dedicated to them at the S. Maria della Scala Museum and Theater.

The entire audience is expected to come to the theater for the opera-symphony productions. Four events are scheduled: on Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. at Teatro dei Rozzi opens Il re dei pavoni, a musical fairy tale by Concetta Anastasi for vocal quartet, actors and small orchestra, inspired by Italo Calvino’s fairy tale-a tribute on the centenary of his birth-with staging by Paola Benocci and musical direction by Valentino Zangara. This is followed by the Sinfonica matinee on Nov. 15 at the Teatro dei Rinnovati, directly aimed at schools in the province, with a performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony and the Overture to Gioachino Rossini’s Cinderella, conducted by Lorenzo Porzio.

Nov. 22 and 23 is the turn of History of the Soldier in the Net, an actualization of Igor Stravinsky’s Histoire du Soldat for instrumental ensemble, narrator, actors and ballet. The performance, part of the MPS Foundation’s Via di Uscita Culturali project launched by Culture Ibride Community Hub, will be staged at Santa Maria della Scala in a matinee and is the result of Amat’s collaboration with four classes from Siena’s Liceo Scientifico Galileo Galilei high school and the Ballet of Siena. Through the notes of Igor Stravinsky and a timeless universal story, it will talk about the web and social network addiction. Staging and subject by Paola Benocci, musical direction by Concetta Anastasi.

Closing the show at the Teatro dei Rinnovati is Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola, a dramma giocoso in two acts, staged on Dec. 7 in matinee for schools and on Dec. 9 at 9 p.m. The central theme of this production directed by Yuri Napoli is light, declined in its various colors and forms, which will give life to the characters, music and story: a surprising way to talk also about renewable energy and green transition.

Like last year, the Fondazione Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala plays a central role in this project, as it hosts all workshop activities dedicated to schools and some rehearsals of the shows starting Oct. 25. Rehearsals are open to museum visitors and matinee performances dedicated to Schools can still be booked by the public (subject to availability) by writing to info@amatlab.com

The project also involves a network of public bodies and private entities in the area, such as Opera Laboratori, Sillabe, Canale Tre Toscana, the Balletto di Siena, the MPS Foundation with the Culture Ibride Community Hub Program, Moviement Hd and is sponsored by Banca Centro Toscana-Umbria.
